Press Release 27.04.2008
The Security sources announced that the Madu
Church area was regained from the LTTE clutch. The people are happy to note that
the sacred area was regained without firing a single shot and we too share the
happiness.
Place of worship can
not be ruled by arms. The troops, which redeemed the Church from the armed LTTE,
must ensure that the sacred precincts will be free without any hindrance for the
access of congregation.
The troops paved the
way for public to enter the premises of Ketheesvaran Temple which is under the
control of army freely without any hindrance. The public welcome this act of the
troops. Likewise all the worship places under army control should be free for
the congregation.
While the security
forces ensure the safety of the congregation to Madu Church, it should do all
its best to make the Madu area as a sacred zone.
EPDP Secretary
General and Minister K.N. Douglas Devananda has taken up this matter to the
President and had a discussion with him.
At the same time the
LTTE has removed the statue of the “Lady of Madu” from the church against the
wish of the public. This has caused injuries to spiritual aspirations of our
people
The LTTE should
return the statue back to the Madu Church without further delay. Catholic
Bishops, Rev. Fathers, All Religious leaders and human right organization should
raise voice and pressurize the LTTE in this regard.
Our wish is to
remove all the obstacles that prevent the spiritual light desired by the people
and to respect the public’s spiritual aspirations.
