No India- No solution

Our friendly neighbouring Nation India's contribution  and supportive solidarity is absolutely essential to attain an everlasting peaceful solution to the political ethnic issue.

Minister Douglas Devananda affirms, India is our saviour, to the British Parliamentarians.

Hon. Minister Meets British Parliamentarians

The visiting team of high level British Parliamentarians, consisting of Andrew Love, Stephen Hammond, Dr. Ashok Kumar met with Secretary General of the EPDP and Minister Douglas Devananda M.P at the Minister’s residence last evening.

The discussions centered on the prevailing political situation in the country and the viable solutions related to Srilanka’s ethnic conflict, the need of the hour.

The British parliamentarians were very keen to be made aware of, in detail, of the proposed steps, the moves and decisions taken towards bringing an end to the ethnic conflict and the pragmatically viable solutions put forward towards attaining a solution.

They wished to assimilate themselves of the EPDP’s policies and the party’s views, stand and commitment towards this national issue.

Minister Douglas Devananda, as the only responsible Minister holding a senior portfolio in the present Government and as the only leader who represents the Tamil speaking people, explicitly detailed the military operations undertaken by the forces and the issues related to human rights violations. The fundamental, basic reasons for the high quantum of human rights violations are solely due to the never ending war, the war that has been the destructive cause for the present state of affairs, resulting in these violations.  This war continues to provide too many avenues and opportunities to create a base for human rights violations, Minister Douglas Devananda, was of the opinion that our people have to be delivered from the annihilation and atrocities, sufferings, agony and the pain of war waged in the name of the Tamil speaking people.

The visiting British parliamentarians had in effect met the Tamil parliamentarians prior to meeting the Minister.

Minister Devananda referring to the TNA members as the  agents of the terrorist group tigers said,” The TNA fully aware of the fact that, they would meet with total defeat at the Eastern Provincial Council elections, have decided to boycott the elections.” He reminded the parliamentarians that during Mrs. C.Kumaratunge’s Presidency, when the proposals for a merged North and East was placed on the table, the same members joined hands with the opposition and set fire to the submitted memorandum.

Minister further enlightened the British Parliamentarians, of the report submitted by the monitors of the European Union, who without any hesitancy accused the TNA members of resorting to illegal and inhuman practices, to be elected at the 2004 General elections. Their report clearly revealed the malpractices the Tamil Parliamentarians adopted to enter the august house.

Further he informed the Parliamentarians that all Tamil politicians and leaders including the present Tamil Parliamentarians were all killed or assassinated by the Tigers.

The Minister vehemently emphasized that killing cannot be entertained nor accepted in any form.

He put forward his Ministry of Social Services and Social Welfare’s scheme to provide rehabilitation centers for those who have surrendered to the Government forces in fear of death.

When the Parliamentarians enquired with regards to International intervention related to the ethnic issue and the political rights of the Tamil speaking people the Minister stressed, that without the cooperation and moral support of our neighbouring Nation India, no permanent solution is attainable or viable. He explained that India, not only remains a friendly nation but a country that knows, feels and understands and possess an inner and deeper study of our country’s problems and issues fully with concern and sympathy.

The Secretary General, explained the pragmatic proposal submitted by the party which would pave the pathway to reach a final solution that would gradually bring  to an end the ethnic conflict in stages. It is only through a viable political solution that you could build a strong trust confidence and hope among the Tamil speaking people.

Our people who are imprisoned in the midst of  four walls of sufferings, burdens, fear and trauma, mistrust and misgivings, living but without life in them, have to be delivered and safely taken along a fruitful and  hopeful life, filled with a bright and joyous future.

The Secretary General said that, the solution for the ethnic crisis is needed only for the people who still bear the eternal scars of the war of terror and not for those trumpet blowers of the Tiger agents who live in foreign lands.

The Parliamentarian having given a good ear to the Ministers comments about the crippled Tamil speaking people’s political freedom and their rights, which is presently in the stagnant muddy waters said, “The Tamils could be directed along the path of deliverance and given momentum through the pragmatic solution presented by the EPDP which has the legal and political provision under the Constitution of Sri Lanka”, They expressed their deep concern and attention.

Minister’s advisor, Attorney at Law Miss. Maheswary Velayutham and Administrative Secretary and former Parliamentarian A.Rasamanickam participated at the meeting.
